Zittergrat via ferrata

The trembly variant

The Zittergrat leads to the same peak as the Brunnistöckli via ferrata, but with a rating of K4 it is significantly more difficult and exposed. The short, steep rock face quickly reveals whether one feels comfortable in more demanding via ferrata terrain too.

A nice step up after the Brunnistöckli – and together the two make for a varied via ferrata day on the Brunni.

Route description

The Zittergrat is located above the Brunnihütte and, as a more demanding alternative, leads to the same peak as the Brunnistöckli.

The route leads through a short, steep and exposed wall. Considerably more strength and confidence are required here than on the Brunnistöckli. After the exit, the descent leads back towards the Brunni hut.

The next step after the Brunnistöckli

Those who have gained their first experience on the Brunnistöckli and feel confident there will find the right step up at the Zittergrat.

With K4 it becomes noticeably more demanding: steeper, more exposed and psychologically challenging. The Zittergrat is therefore well suited to finding out how one copes with more challenging via ferratas.

Requirements

✓ Via ferrata experience recommended
✓ Freedom from vertigo
✓ Safe use of the via ferrata set
✓ Sufficient power for steeper sections
✓ No problems with exposed terrain

Combine Brunnistöckli and Zittergrat

A particularly nice combination is to do the Brunnistöckli first as a «warm-up» and then tackle the Zittergrat as a more difficult challenge.

In this way, the difficulty can be increased step by step, and both via ferratas together make for a varied day on the Brunni.

Good to know

Despite its short length, the Zittergrat should not be underestimated. The significant jump from K2 at Brunnistöckli to K4 at the Zittergrat in particular should be taken into account when planning the tour.

Similar via ferratas

  • Brunnistöckli – straightforward K2 via ferrata and ideal preparation for the Zittergrat.
  • Rigidalstockgrat – longer via ferrata tour above the Brunni hut.
  • Rigid pile wall – more demanding route on the Rigidalstock.
