📍 Grew up in Emmetten in Central Switzerland — overlooking Lake Lucerne and the Uri Alps.
My parents took me into the mountains even as a child and taught me early on what it means to be out and about up there. Not as a tourist. As a mountain person.
🏔️ Home territory Engelberg & Uri Alps
I have known Engelberg and its valleys for decades. The slopes at Titlis, the couloirs at Galtiberg, the climbs around the Spannort — that is not just knowledge learned from books. It is lived experience.
🎓 Apprenticeship as a Geomatics Technician & Start of Computer Science Degree
After attending sports school in Mora, Sweden (2003), and completing a four-year apprenticeship as a geomatics technician, I began studying computer science. Absorbed by the screen, I missed the mountains and nature too much and successfully dropped out of school to have more time in the mountains.
⛷️ Ski & Cross-Country Ski Instructor Prime Ski School Engelberg
After a very long cycling tour through Russia and the whole of Europe, I worked the winters that followed as a ski instructor and completed a large part of the snow sports instructor training. Thanks to my mentor at the time, Armin Kündig, I was also able to learn a lot in the technical management of the Prime Ski School Engelberg. In summer, I was mainly out and about in the mountains.
🏔️ 2010 – 2026 Establishment of and collaboration with Engelberg Mountain Guide
From 2010 to 2026, I had the privilege of helping to build and shape the Engelberg Mountain Guide agency alongside Sämi Speck, Thomas Odermatt and Fredi Krummenacher. From the first day in the office as a «nobody» to becoming one of the most well-known addresses for mountain guide services in the region — I am particularly proud of this collaborative work. From the summer of 2026, it was time to go my separate ways. Let's see where this journey leads.
🧗 Mountain guide since 2015, IFMGA certified.
In 2012 I began my mountain guide training — completing it in 2015. Since then I have been an IFMGA-certified mountain guide: the highest international qualification that exists in mountaineering.
🏃 Polysport
Mountain and endurance sports were never just a hobby for me — they were a school. As an active competitive athlete in orienteering, cross-country skiing, road cycling and trail running, I learned what it really means to know your own body: pacing yourself, evaluating pain, and keeping going when it counts. That perseverance, along with the extensive network built through it, is now part of every tour that I guide.
👶 The Janosch, Malin & Laila family with partner Judith
I am the father of three children — Janosch, Malin and Laila. That changes how I see the mountains: with respect, with responsibility, but also with the joy of passing something magnificent on.
📖 Author of Engelberg Outdoor Guide and other mountain sports literature
Throughout my time in the mountains, I was allowed to publish guide literature in collaboration with colleagues on a regular basis. By now, I have sold over 10,000 copies of various print media and inspired many guests to go hiking in the mountains.
🌍 German · Swedish · English · French
I enjoy working with international guests. Besides German and Swedish, which I speak fluently, I am good at English and after a small beer I also speak French.

Network overview
Engelberg thrives on the people who know and love its mountains. Mountain guides, hut wardens and hosts – a network of individuals whom I trust and who help shape this mountain world every day.
